The Design Experience
What to Expect from Start to Finish
Whether we're creating an illustrated wedding suite, a boutique brand identity, a destination-inspired collection, or a meaningful keepsake, every project begins the same way: with your story.
My goal is to make the creative process feel just as enjoyable as the finished design. From our first conversation to your final files, every step is designed to be thoughtful, collaborative, and beautifully organized.
Below you'll find everything you need to know before we begin.
Every Great Project Starts With a Conversation
Once your project has been booked and payment has been received, we'll begin gathering everything that makes your design uniquely yours.
Depending on your project, you may share:
• Event details and important dates
• Inspiration images, Pinterest boards, or mood boards
• Color palettes and style preferences
• Photos, reference material, or meaningful locations
• Any details that help tell your story
The more creative direction you can provide at the beginning, the smoother the process becomes.
Bringing Your Vision to Life
Every illustration and design is created personally by me using my signature digital watercolor style. My goal is never to simply decorate a page, but to create artwork that feels timeless, personal, and worth keeping.
Depending on your project, your first proof may be delivered as:
• A private Zazzle template
• A digital proof
• A custom branding presentation
We'll work together to refine everything until it feels just right.
Revisions & Refinements
Every custom project includes up to two rounds of revisions for reasonable refinements, including:
• Wording updates
• Minor layout adjustments
• Small illustration refinements
Sometimes projects naturally evolve beyond the original scope. If additional illustrations, major redesigns, or new concepts are requested, I'll always provide a separate quote before moving forward.
Nothing is ever done without your approval.
My Design Philosophy
One of the questions I receive most often is whether I can recreate another artist's work.
The short answer is no.
Every illustration is created in my own signature watercolor style. While inspiration is always welcome, I don't replicate another artist's work or copy existing designs.
Instead, I use your inspiration as a starting point to create something that's completely original and uniquely yours.
That's what makes every project special.
Communication
The best projects happen when communication is clear and collaborative.
Whenever possible, I recommend collecting edits into one organized message rather than sending multiple small updates throughout the day.
This helps me stay focused, keeps projects moving efficiently, and ensures nothing gets missed.
Turnaround Times
Every project is different, but these general timelines help set expectations.
Custom Illustration Projects
Typically 1–6 weeks depending on scope.
Wedding Suites
Often booked several months in advance.
Rush Projects
Sometimes available for an additional fee depending on my schedule.
If you're working toward a specific deadline, please mention it during your initial inquiry so I can confirm availability.
Investment, Payments & Project Scope
Because every project is created specifically for you, a significant amount of work happens long before the first proof is ever delivered.
Research.
Planning.
Sketching.
Illustration development.
Color studies.
For that reason:
• Full payment reserves your project.
• Design fees become non-refundable once work has begun.
• Every project is created exclusively for you and may not be resold or reused.
If your project grows beyond its original scope, additional work will always be discussed and quoted before any new design begins.
Printing & File Delivery
While I personally create every design, printing is handled by trusted production partners.
Depending on your package, you'll receive either:
• Personalized Zazzle templates ready for ordering
or
• High-resolution digital files for professional printing or self-printing.
If you decide you'd prefer digital files instead of personalized Zazzle templates, that can absolutely be arranged and will be quoted separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should we book?
For illustrated wedding stationery, I generally recommend reaching out four to six months before your wedding, although earlier is always encouraged for destination weddings or larger projects.
How long do illustrations usually take?
Typical timelines are:
Venue Portraits
Approximately 1–2 weeks
Illustrated Maps
Approximately 3–6 weeks
Complete Wedding Suites
Approximately 6–10 weeks
These estimates include revisions but do not include printing or shipping time.
What if we're ordering from one of your ready-made Zazzle designs?
Ready-made collections have a much faster turnaround.
If you simply need wording changes, color adjustments, or light customization, I can usually complete these much more quickly than a fully custom design.
Recommended ordering timelines:
Save the Dates
6–8 months before your event
Invitations
3–4 months before your event
Day-of Stationery
4–6 weeks before your event
Can you create something outside of weddings?
Absolutely.
While many people first discover my work through wedding stationery, my studio creates thoughtful illustration and design for a wide variety of clients and industries.
Recent projects have included boutique hospitality branding, destination marketing, corporate publications, nonprofit communications, travel-inspired product collections, custom business stationery, milestone celebrations, memorial keepsakes, home décor, and personalized gifts.
Whether you're launching a new business, publishing an annual report, planning a destination wedding, or creating a meaningful family keepsake, every project begins with the same goal: telling your story beautifully.
A Personal Note
Every project I accept represents someone's story.
A wedding.
A new business.
A family tradition.
A milestone birthday.
A favorite place.
A memory worth preserving.
Those moments deserve more than something off the shelf.
Whether we're creating a single keepsake or an entire collection, my goal is always the same: to design something that feels personal today and meaningful for years to come.
Thank you for considering IYHTV Designs to be part of your story.
